In the public sector we work with clients in central and local government, in defence, health and higher education. All are faced with pressure to improve their service levels – to get more from their investment in Oracle Applications and to demonstrate value for money.

Higher Education
Higher education institutions rely on continued funding from multiple sources—all with different and ever-changing reporting requirements. Furthermore, they are being asked to show greater accountability for how they spend those funds, with the ultimate goal of spending less on administration and more on teaching and learning delivery. Having been involved in a number of Oracle-related projects for UK-based Higher Education institutions Mokum understand these issues. Our most recent experience includes implementing the Oracle Grants module for an internationally recognised university, de-commissioning a number of customizations during an Oracle Applications upgrade for Cambridge University and providing expert advice on reporting options for a university in Scotland.
Local Authorities
Mokum has worked with many local and regional authorities throughout the UK. Our experience includes remotely supporting a number of local authorities with their use of Oracle Applications, developing numerous customisations for a large London local authority during their implementation of the Oracle E-Business Suite, implementing the Oracle Time & Labour modules and a direct debit system for a North-West England county council and upgrading North Yorkshire County Council’s Oracle Applications to release 11.5.10. Additionally Mokum have recently provided some strategic advice to several local authorities on areas such as chart-of-accounts design, the use of Oracle Advanced Collections and we have provided expert input into Oracle Internet Procurement feasibility studies.
NHS
Several recent joint ventures between IT organisations and the Department of Health have resulted in a number of shared service centres implementations for NHS organisations. These shared service centres, which run financial transaction processing and e-commerce using the Oracle E-Business Suite, are available to all UK NHS Trusts. However, the decision on whether to migrate to these service centres and use the latest Oracle technology can be a difficult one for individual trusts, whose own IT and finance departments are often not large in size and the migration requires process changes and staff training. Addionally those trusts that have migrated to the shared service model are often not realising the benefits due to limited internal knowledge on how shared services and Oracle Applications can best work for them and due their size they often do not have the power to escalate their own issues to the shared service centre providers. Mokum has many years experience in not only shared service centre implementations but also we have employed a number of specialist Oracle consultants who have hands-on experience working with NHS trusts. These consultants have recently worked with a number of individual trusts providing essential advice on whether to migrate to a shared services model and also advising trusts who have already migrated on how they can make the best use of their adopted system. Mokum also provide specialist remote support to NHS trusts who require a more responsive service with expert Oracle Appplications knowledge on functional queries including ‘how do I …?’ support.
